LA Live and Rango

If you haven't heard of it before, LA Live is a "one of a kind Entertainment campus" in Downtown Los Angeles, right next to the Staples Center. It has trendy restaurants, clubs, shops, frequent events, and so on. We've heard of it before, and it's been recommended we go check it out.

So, for the DateNight 3/10 we decided to head on over and check it out! First impressions is that it's a lot smaller than we thought, but very very trendy indeed. We felt a little out of place with our regular-person clothing, but hey, we're arguably local so we can get away with it. Everyone else definitely dressed for a night on the town - women in club/evening wear, and men with neat pressed suits, all seemingly anxious to get into one of the clubs at LA Live.

LA Live itself is only about 4 or so blocks large, and is next to the Staples Center, as mentioned previously. Wifey and I explored for a bit and checked out the scenery, and decided that LA Live in the middle of the week toward the end of Winter is probably not a good thing. While there were certainly people there it wasn't as "vibrant" and "energized" as we had expected. We'll head over again in the summer to see how it changes.

Anyway, after exploring a bit we got dinner at a Taco Truck -- which we knew could not be a Roach Coach due to the fact it had twitter and facebook stickers on the side. Because, you know, that's what matters! Regardless, the food was great and cheap. Couldn't tell you what the name of the truck was, even though it was promoted through twitter and facebook. Oh well.

After dinner we went to go see Rango. If you haven't seen this movie, go check it out - we really liked it! We don't think it's movie-of-the-year great, but definitely worth-the-absurd-movie-ticket-cost great! This is, however, a movie we would not take kids (or more specifically, children) to. There be drinkin', and smokin', and wild-west gun-shootin' mayhemmin'! In short, it's an animated Western for grown-ups - fun for us but perhaps not appropriate for particularly young audiences. Which, in a way was really welcomed - we've been looking forward to an animated movie geared a little more towards those over the 25 years of age mark. Now, as far as westerns go, the storyline is pretty predicable and nothing original there. The visuals are fantastic - they really nailed the wild-west feel of the desert, cowboys, and so on. The dialogue is also excellently written - pay close attention to what the characters say, and how they say it, or you might miss out on some excellent one-liners.

Anyhow, that concludes DateNight 3/10!
