Wifey and I are avid SCUBA divers (although that has subsided a bit
in recent years), and one of our most frequented spots is Veterans Park,
Redondo Beach. The site is just south of the Redondo Beach
Pier, which we use as a reference point whenever we enter the water. We
sometimes check out the pier after diving to get some nourishment or
just to relax a bit.
But we've never really explored the pier. Especially not at night. I wanted to change that, I mean, we're in that area so much and yet we know nothing of it?
I looked up the pier
to see what can be done there, and it really looked like most of the
happenin's are on weekends. So instead of our normal Thursday Date
Night we headed out to the Pier on a Saturday. Saturday, May 5th. You know, Cinco de Mayo. We were reminded of this when we went to eat dinner at El Torito and they were decked out for Cinco de Mayo celebrations and yet... just about no-one showed up. We kinda felt bad for 'em, but oh well.
Dinner aside - we discovered the pier is huge and there's big ol' walkway across the water, connecting to the pier itself. We even found this really weird arcade below the pier that had the strangest prices - like wall clocks... and lamps ... and toys, there were definitely toys! .. but also batteries. And things of that nature.
But you know, it was an arcade and you don't see very many of them hanging around. Wifey and I tried our hand at an ancient Pong machine (awesome), and an obligatory round of air hockey that Wifey won (shenanigans!)
So after many years of being in So Cal we finally got to properly check out the pier. Whodathunk it's actually kinda cool?? ;)
